Internet game site offers on-the-money advertising space
Beside fun and free games, Thailand's first internet game site, jakfree.com, offers an alternative means for advertisers to reach their target groups - at any time they choose.
According to Pete Bodharamik, president of Jasmine Cyberworks Co., Ltd, joint venture partner of jakfree.com, there are now over 1 million internet users worldwide and this figure is expected to rise to 8 million in 2004.
"Numerous websites have been launched in the last couple of years to attract this growing internet community," he said. "The internet is an attractive advertising channel because it has the potential to find target consumers fast, 24-hours-a-day."
Online advertising spending in Thailand is expected to be about 1% of overall media spending by the end of this year."
"jakfree.com games attract internet users of all ages. We are therefore an alternative channel for advertisers who want to reach their target groups," Mr Bodharamik said.
The many different games on offer provide alternative means for advertising products and services. Product placements can be bought at all game levels, or achieved through the sponsorship of prizes or game rooms - or intermissions. These ads are much more memorable than banners or search links, he said.
Captain Navamin Prasopnet, the director of marketing at jakfree.com said the site's strength is that it is the first internet game-host to give away prizes. "As a result, our member base now stands at more than 140,000 after two months of operation. We are recording 15,000 game players a day and a further 100,000 visitors a month," he said.
"Our sponsors can specify target group - using criteria like gender, age, occupation, location and log-on times - as well as advertising times and frequency to serve their goals.
"They can also log on to our database and check reports and statistics involving their products to evaluate their advertising investment and the popularity of their products and services."
jakfree.com offers its members plenty of fun games. The fun begins with the entry game Collect Points where players must open 'boards' to gain points. Members may then move on to Bonus Zone to play other games, such as Run-a-Run, Pok-a-Pok, and Roll-a-Roll, using the collected points from the first game. Players can also choose to enter the Jackpot Zone to play Up & Down, and Q&A.
Members can also play against one another at Online Bingo, which operates according to given schedules. Winners may choose to claim their prizes immediately or trade the points for a chance to win bigger prizes, or be included in a lucky draw that takes place once a month. There are three ways of winning prizes: Random Pick, Lucky Draw, and Prize Auction.
Membership is free for anyone who registers and fills in his or her name, gender, age and e-mail address.
Of the more than 100,000 members of jakfree.com, 69,000 are male. There are 42,467 in the 20 to 25 age bracket, 30,626 in the under-20 age range and 5,010 in the 31-35 group. Fifty-five percent of members are students. The remainder are private-company staff and entrepreneurs.
