Bangkok Bank Plc. (BBL) and Ji-Net have tied up to make it easier to buy Internet hours. The move is also expected to save Ji-Net money.
The Bank and Internet Service Provider (ISP) have launched what's been dubbed the "Ji-Net Express" service, which allows the purchase of Ji-Net Internet hours at any of BBL's 700 Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) through out greater Bangkok and Neighboring provinces.
The service is the first of its kind in Thailand, and Ji-Net is hoping it will bolster customer numbers, while BBL believes its public image as a technologically advanced bank will get a boost from the deal.
BBL is Thailand's largest bank and Ji-Net one of the most popular ISPs.
Customers can now buy Internet hours from BBL's ATMs and simply receive passwords and connection numbers to access their accounts on pre-printed receipts issued by the ATM.
Internet users with Ji-Net accounts will also be able to pay them at ATMs.
Ji-Net president Somsak Padhana-anek said the team-up was expected to boost the number of accounts being managed by the company to 100,000 from 80,000 currently. The service is available to holders of BBL's ATM cards, Bualung Premier cards and B-First cards.
"With more than five million holders of BBL ATM cards, we expect the service will gain popularity among metropolitan Net-users," Somsak said.
Ji-Net's packaging costs are expected to plummet by about 20 per cent as a result of the deal, Somsak said.
