Acumen diversifies into training content.

Acumen Co., a subsidiary of Jasmine International, will diversify into providing network maintenance and content development to offset a fall in demand for its very small aperture terminal (VSAT) services.
The core service, which provides data communication via satetllite, is used mostly by corporate clients. However, demand had been declining by 15% to 20% annually in recent years, prompting Acumen to expand into providing content development, online technical training for staff of corporate clients, network maintenance and bidding for projects, said president Somsak Padhana-anek.
The company this year expected to sign up about 100 large companies for its training service, T-square, in addition to 300 existing clients, mainly medium-scale firms and government agencies and enterprises, he said, adding Acumen would hire experts to develop content for the service.
Network maintenance services would be provided to three major corporate clients. The service would become very attractive to companies looking to reduce costs while improving efficiency, he said.
Among other project, Acumen wants to help the government install Internet services in small communications or tambons, nationwide.
Acumen projects revenue of 1.8 billion baht this year, about the same as last year, building on its claimed leading share of the VSAT market.
Although the market was worth at last one billion baht a year, VSAT service were likely to follow pagers in fading from the market during the next three years, Mr. Somsak said.
