Telecom and Internet service provider Jastel Network has targeted revenue of about Bt1.8 billion in 2012.

The Jasmine International subsidiary generated revenue of about Bt800 million last year and expects income of Bt1.2 billion this year and Bt1.5 billion in 2011, general manager Somchai Treerattana-nukool said yesterday.

Jastel has also targeted that 10 per cent of the income each year will be profit.

Somchai said the company was in talks with US firm O3b Networks, which plans to launch many broadband satellites worldwide next year, on the possibility of being O3b's broadband satellite service provider in Thailand.

O3b Networks is a builder of a fibre-quality, satellite-based, global Internet backbone for telecommunications operators and Internet service providers in emerging markets.

Somchai said that as part of the move, Jastel would soon apply for a licence from the National Telecommunications Commission to provide the downlink and uplink service of the satellite signal.

Jastel provides Internet access service, international Internet gateway service and international privately leased circuit service. It has seen rising demand in all three areas.

Somchai added that the company was interested in jointly investing in the submarine cable network business with an existing submarine cable consortium as part of next year's business plan.

It might have to spend between Bt400 million and Bt500 million on the joint investment.
