The Jasmine International Group subsidiary also plans to provide barcode-based services on RFID and WiMax technologies next year, by renting networks from licence-holding operators.

Ji-Net is introducing its 'Juicy' international calling card, targeting backpackers and people living in guesthouses.

Customers would be charged from three to 20 baht a minute depending on calling destinations. They can purchase Juicy calling cards and make calls Juicy phone booths.

President Somsak Padhana-anek said Ji-Net is focusing more on the high-growth voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) businesses to offset the effects of intense competition from high-speed broadband service providers.

The number of Ji-Net broadband customers has dropped significantly from 6,000 early this year to 3,800 currently.

Mr Somsak acknowledged that internet service providers needed to seek new value-added services on top of broadband for survival.

He said Ji-Net was moving aggressively into the company's flagship voice-based services in industries of banking and financial services, petrol stations, fast food, insurance and chain stores.

''We expect to see revenue of 500 million baht in 2008, up from 420 million this year,'' he said, adding that voice revenue would jump from 30 million this year to 120 million next year.

Ji-Net plans to provide more voice-based services including IP-PBX for small and medium-sized enterprises, WiFi for large corporate customers and call centre services.

Mr Somsak also said that Ji-Net had encouraged its shareholder CAT Telecom to sell back the 32% stake held by the state telecom enterprise in exchange for 16.6 million baht. The move would increase its registered capital from 15 million to 50 million baht.
