JasTel's 2009 revenue to exceed expectations

Internet and telecom network service provider JasTel Network expects this year's gross revenue to exceed its target, thanks mainly to a massive surge in demand.

The company initially aimed to earn Bt680 million in revenue, and achieved Bt145 million in the first quarter and nearly Bt270 million in the second, assistant vice president for international business Wittaya Laksawut said yesterday.

JasTel services include Internet connectivity for corporate consumers as well as international privately leased circuits, or a private point-to-point system providing voice-to-data communication between branches of a company across the world.

Its customers include international Internet gateway service providers, Internet service providers and multinational firms based in Thailand.

JasTel, a subsidiary of Jasmine International, was founded in 2006 and recorded revenues of Bt80 million in 2007 and Bt380 million in 2008.

General manager Somchai Treerat-tananukool said JasTel had invested Bt450 million this year, most of which had been spent on expanding network facilities and the development of new services. JasTel estimates that the Thai market value for allocating world-standard bandwidth to local Internet service providers stands at Bt4 billion, increasing between 10 and 15 per cent every year.
