CAT scheduled to select new president

Source - Bangkok Post

CAT Telecom's selection committee will vote today to select a new president.

The seven candidates presented their visions for running the state telecom enterprise to the CAT board yesterday.

The vote had been scheduled for yesterday, but the committee chairman was unable to attend the presentations so it was postponed until July 13. It was then brought forward to today after the committee insisted on a quicker decision.

The chairman will watch a recording of the presentations before voting gets under way. The candidate with the most votes will have their name submitted to the board for final approval.

A source said a successful candidate would need connections with the political party that dominates the Information and Communication Technology Ministry.

Jirayuth Roongsrithong, former senior executive vice-president and chief financial officer of CAT, is seen as very likely to be picked, the source said.
